Changes at Home

Fun things have been happening in the Rom home.  In the past month we finally got around to painting the kitchen and we upgraded our kitchen counter tops to Glacier White Corian solid surface (from Lowe's).  Then last week we had a tile back splash installed (also from Lowe's, both tile and install).  We had always planned to add these things, but didn't have a definitive timeline.  We actually first decided on tile, and special ordered a beautiful glass subway tile.  Then, we decided if we were going to do tile, we should just upgrade the counters, too!  Then as luck would have it, we found a mini subway glass tile that we liked even better than the original tile we special ordered and it was half the price!!  So back went the first tile, and the rest is history!  We had a good experience going with Lowe's, and enjoy the perks that having a credit card with them offers (5% off or special financing).  Even the installation services are charged like a regular purchase and are subject to the perks!

Here's our before:

The counters were your basic laminate, in a speckle pattern.  We were happy with them, but always knew we'd want to upgrade.
Here's the after:
Before tile.  New sink and  faucet.

So pretty!

Corian is supposed to be very good for wear and durability.  The installers told us it should stain, but that we might want to take precautions with things like the coffee pot where it would sit on the surface.  So we added the black tray and we think it looks good that way!

The tile is called ivory, but is really a green-ish tone, that almost matches our paint colors perfectly.  Since these pictures were taken, we've switched out the bamboo fruit bowl in the corner in the second picture to a wire banana-hanger/fruit bowl combo that is a dark brown wire.  It's really neat and looks much better in the space.

We love it!
