14 Months Old!

It's SO exciting to be 14 months old!
It's been another hot, but fun month!  We don't get to play outside as often as Eliza would like due to the 90-100 degree weather, and not to mention we don't have grass - just brown prickly dead stuff. :(  But, we've still had great month.  On her actual 14 month "birthday" we went to the zoo to watch the Jump! dog show, see the birds, and ride the carousel.  So much fun!

The Basics:

  • Weight:  around 19.5 lbs.
  • We're not sure tall she is this month.  Her next well visit is next month.
  • She seems longer and leaner than before, and more like a toddler than a baby.  But she's still petite!
  • She's had roseola, complete with horrible rash this month, plus another virus now with bad cough, some vomiting, and fever.  Boo!
  • When we ask her where a shoe or  sock goes, she picks up her foot for us.  :)
  • She's putting toys to her ear like a phone and says "el-o", points the remote at the tv, "brushes" her hair, pretends to put on lotion, and tried to take her own temperature.  She's a good mimic!

Eating:

  • Eliza was sick during a couple weeks this month, so she hasn't been eating as well as we'd hoped.
  • She did start drinking whole milk from a sippy cup at daycare.
  • She's still getting 3 bottles of breast milk as there is plenty in our freezer from when I pumped.  One in the morning as soon as she wakes up, one in the car after daycare, and one right before bed.  She also still had only breast milk at home on the weekends.
  • Her favorite foods this month are bananas, applesauce, corn, and macaroni and cheese.
  • She's starting to use a spoon!

Moving:

  • Walking like she's been doing it forever.  I can only remember her crawling once recently.
  • She dances and bounces to music.
  • She has enough coordination to walk with her rolling ball toy.
  • She loves to walk around the house and open and close doors.

Talking:

  • She's doing much more talking.
  • She "reads" out loud to herself from books.
  • She can say all-done, daddy, Adam, dog, book, hi, banana, and she's capable of mama, she just doesn't use it often.  Now, these words don't really sound like the actual word if you or I said them.  But, we've been able to recognize her saying these things with intention and we can recognize the pattern.

Milestones:

  • First trip to the Shedd Aquarium.
  • Drinking whole milk.
  • First hair trim by mommy.
  • We tried to give her a taste of ice cream for the first time but she refused it!  :)
  • Getting a big girl car seat.
  • First ponytails.
  • First Olympic Games!  USA! USA!

Her Loves:

  • Toy picnic basket--putting things in and taking things out, opening and shutting the lid.
  • Walking
  • Being outside when she can!
  • Having mommy and daddy visit at daycare.
  • Super Why (PBS kids show)
  • Opening doors, and shutting people in closets
  • Sliding of our laps onto the floor

Our Loves:
  • Watching her try to play dress-up.
  • Seeing how curious she is about the world around her.
  • How interactive with us she's become.
  • How easily she goes to sleep for nighttime and naps.
  • Hugs
  • She's just so funny!

squirmy

Her Dislikes:
  • Being confined.
  • Having things taken away
  • Being sick.
Our Dislikes:
  • Seeing her sick
  • When she gets into the recycling and pulls everything out!
  • How hard it is to get a picture of her looking at the camera!
Eliza is doing really well and showing a lot of personality.  She's a curious, happy, and funny girl!
